Data Engineer

    The Role: Data Engineer

    You'll be an integral part of our multi-functional Operations team, with broad responsibilities that touch nearly every aspect of our company. We'll expect you to learn quickly and make critical contributions that will have a huge impact on our success and direction. Currently, we need your help to take our data analytics platform to the next level. Your first mission will be to help identify and implement a new business intelligence tool to enable us to continue making informed, data-driven decisions. As part of this effort, you will need to consider a data warehouse solution to reduce the strain on our operational databases, while also achieving our goal of providing real-time data analysis.

    We do a pretty good job of using data to understand the health and trends of our business, but we need you to help respond to the challenges of increasing internal demand and overall company growth. Another area of need is product utilization and system performance metrics. We’ll lean on you to harness the power of data to ensure the stability of the products and systems that our customers rely on. On projects like this, you’ll need to work with engineers to design and embed the data infrastructure you need. Over time, you’ll end up working with every team in our company - including finance, marketing, key accounts, and our customer experience team. 

    These critical projects will be a big part of your role for the foreseeable future. But, we’re a small company, and we’ll need you to jump in and help with other priorities as they arise. This could include anything from a quick custom report for a key client to performing a margin analysis on a new line of business that is setting off red flags. Or perhaps our Head of Marketing will tap you on the shoulder to get a second set of eyes on some metrics he’s considering acting on. We can promise you there won’t be a dull moment, and if you enjoy digging into the data to find answers, you are going to love this role. 

    *This position is temporarily remote. When deemed safe to return to the office, the expectation will be that all employees will do so.

    Requirements:

    • Proficient with SQL and relational databases
    • Experience providing analytics for SaaS products
    • Experience implementing ETL workflows
    • Experience using AWS cloud services
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Passionate about telling stories through data visualization
    • Openness to having your ideas challenged and embrace healthy conflict
    • High emotional intelligence
    • Lifelong learner

    Bonus points if you have:

    • Experience as a software developer
    • Led cross-functional teams
    • Expertise in SQL Server performance tuning/query optimization
